FROM HOST
TO PHOTONICS.
Our reference engineering investigates the boundaries between approved AI/HPC electrical interfaces, optical conversion, proposed photonic distribution, and the receiving electronic system.
REAL SYSTEM
BOUNDARIES.
Reference studies include NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 rack, compute-tray, and GPU-associated network levels, considering applicable Astera Labs electronic products in proposed external interface pathways. This does not indicate a qualified joint NVIDIA/Astera integration.
Host interface
OEM- or platform-approved external networking boundary; native NVLink remains untouched.
Candidate interface roles
Qualified electronic conditioning/switching; Taurus and Scorpio roles must be verified per protocol.
E/O engine
Qualified modulation, laser and electrical-to-optical transmission before fiber launch.
Routing fabric
Architecture-specific optical topology, switching, routing and capacity control.
O/E recovery
Optical receive, electronic reconstruction and approved destination interface.
Functional sequence for examination—not a pin-level or protocol-qualified production implementation. No direct Taurus–Scorpio interoperability is assumed.
The photonic system mustPlatform-specific source, interface, power and physical budgets are tracked separately.
meet the rack where it is.
CLOSER
PHYSICAL
COUPLING.
Candidate three-dimensional integration may enable a compact relationship between optical switches, routed light, electronic drivers, sensing circuits and physical-state verification. The actual stack and interposer features require process review.
Photonic plane
Waveguides, optical switching primitives, monitors, and qualified fiber coupling structures.
Electronic actuation plane
Driver and receiver circuits, control connections, electrical isolation and feasible vertical interconnects.
DTMOS observation plane
Measured state feedback and controlled actuation policies. A logical twin is not assumed to physically reside within the wafer.
Assembly and qualification
Thermal, optical-loss, timing, TSV/RDL, material, yield and TAP integration constraints remain process-dependent.
